Dear colleagues, peers and friends,

In my December 2025 newsletter, I shared that after 38 years as a psychologist, supervisor, educator and business coach, I had decided to step back and take a break.

During 2026, I gave myself some space to reflect on what I most value in my professional life and where I wanted to focus my energy next.

I kept coming back to the same things: standards, governance, leadership and culture and the role they play in creating safe, effective and sustainable psychology services.

Private practice has been an important part of my professional life for many years. As the regulatory, ethical and operational environment becomes increasingly complex, I believe psychologists need more than information about what good practice looks like.

They need practical guidance, systems and tools that help them put good practice into action.

Introducing PractAus

I am very excited, and proud, to introduce PractAus, a new professional learning platform developed by Rebecca Frost, Aaron Frost and me.

Our purpose is simple:

To provide practical training and guidance that supports high standards, reduces risk and strengthens psychology services.

We created PractAus because we could see a gap between professional standards and regulatory requirements, and the practical realities of running psychology services every day.

Our focus is on clinical practice, governance, ethics and business operations, with practical, applied resources that support real-world decision-making.

PractAus is designed to support:

  • Individual psychologists seeking greater confidence and clarity in their professional practice
  • Private practice owners wanting to build strong clinical, governance and business systems from the ground up
  • Organisations seeking to provide safe, accountable and effective psychology services.

Fit to Practice is back, and it has grown!

In 2016, following the publication of Fit to Practice, I developed the original Fit to Practice online training program.

It proved enormously popular, and over the years psychologists have continued to ask for more. Ten years later, it felt like the right time to completely rethink and expand the program.

Rebecca, Aaron and I have brought together what we have learned from establishing, operating, growing and ultimately selling successful psychology practices, alongside our experience in clinical governance, regulation, ethics, leadership and professional standards.

The result is a new three-level Fit to Practice program, designed to support psychologists across different stages of the private practice journey.

Rather than simply telling you what you should do, Fit to Practice provides contemporary templates, implementation guides, resources and practical tools that you can work through at your own pace to build the practice you want.

We know that private practice now involves increasingly complex ethical, regulatory, clinical and operational demands. Our aim is to make those demands more understandable and manageable by providing clear, structured guidance in the areas that matter most.

Fit to Practice Level 1 is now available on PractAus

Over the coming months, we will continue to add courses and resources focused on governance, ethics, professional standards, risk, leadership and the business of delivering high-quality psychology services.

Bringing the threads together

After taking some time away, it feels good to return with a much clearer sense of where I want to make my contribution.

For me, PractAus represents the bringing together of many threads from across my career: private practice, clinical work, education, governance, regulation, supervision and business.

They come together with one overarching purpose: helping psychologists build services that are not only successful, but safe, ethical, well governed and genuinely fit for practice.

I am delighted to finally share it with you.

Warmly,
Kaye Frankcom
